2030, here we go!

In recent years we have grown a lot, multiplied the opportunities generated, explored new frontiers and helped millions of Brazilians face their health challenges. But we feel we can do much more!

That is why, in 2020, we challenged our leaders to draw up an action plan with a long-term vision, but with pragmatic goals.

To be more precise, there are 35 commitments divided into eight thematic fields. The 2030 commitments are aligned with our ambition for sustainability. In 2023, we will make a first review of these commitments, based on what we learn in the first two years.

We call this plan CAMINHAR JUNTOS (WALKING TOGETHER), after all, we know that it will be a collective journey and we need the joint dedication of our teams, our suppliers and customers themselves to go even further.

We have many steps to take, but we have already begun a virtuous cycle, contemplating the future of the business, which promotes comprehensive health, and the future of sustainability, which regenerates society and the environment. And to reach a healthier 2030, we want to invite you: would you like to walk with us?

By 2030, we want to be the group that most contributes to a healthier society.

The pillars and objectives of this sustainable journey:

    Taking care of the health
    of RD’s
    employees

    Healthier People

Taking care of the comprehensive health of our thousands of employees is a priority more than ever. The challenges of our time require holistic care, understanding the body, mind and social and environmental context as complementary parts of the individual.

For this reason, we are developing not only mechanisms to monitor the medical indicators of our people but also refining the nutritional patterns of our cafeterias, stimulating the reduction of a sedentary lifestyle and seeking ways to make our work environment healthier.

    Pragmatic goals until 2030:

    • Reducing by

      50% the health risk factors

of the employees engaged in the RD healthy habits promotion program

    • To have a work environment perceived

      as healthy

by at least 80% of employees

    • To significantly reduce

      sick leaves

    • Offering to

      100% of employees

mapped with chronic diseases the opportunity to participate in health programs.

    • Providing nutritional guidance to

      100% of employees

    Promoting healthy
    habits
    among
    RD customers

    Healthier People

We want to rescue in our story the vocation to care, going beyond comfort and pain relief. The “new pharmacy” will be a Health Hub, where our client will find a wide range of health and wellness services, as well as quick exams and expert guidance on our multiple contact channels.

Thus, our goal is to contribute to the development of healthier habits among the more than 40 million people impacted by RD. Through our digital channels, we will help them monitor medical indicators and ask questions as soon as they arise.

    Pragmatic goals until 2030:

    • Reaching

      100% of customers

covered by pharma and/or health-hub services*

    • Reaching

      100% of customers

      covered by stores with pharmacists
      health coaches**

    • Improving

      health parameters

of our customers that are connected to the health platform

    • Expanding customer base tagged as

DNA Vida Saudável (DNA Healthy Living)

    • Monitor and/or exclude

      components considered
      controversial

100% of our own brand products

*The so-called pharma services are those of low-complexity procedures offered to our customers in pharmacies, such as blood pressure and blood glucose measurement and application of vaccines. The concept of stores as Health Hub (health point) considers stores that offer, in addition to these, a broader set of health solutions, such as teleorientation, nutritional monitoring, among others.
**The coach pharmacist is our professional trained for a more personalized and more health-oriented customer service.

    Promoting integral health in communities

    Healthier People

RD is already a reference today in initiatives aimed at generating a positive social impact (find out more in the “Social Investment” tab, here on the side). But we are aware that we can contribute even more to the challenge of providing access to health services for the most vulnerable populations.

We will expand support for non-governmental organizations that promote comprehensive health in underserved communities across the country, not only with financial resources, but also with a greater performance of employees as volunteers. In addition, we want our Health Hubs network to also serve these communities through their various channels and service provision.

    Pragmatic goals until 2030:

    • Reaching

      3 million people

in situation of social vulnerability in comprehensive health actions

    • Engaging

      20% of RD employees

      as active volunteers

    • Investing

      1% of net income

      in comprehensive health promotion projects

  • 4

    Including and empowering
    employees through
    promoting of diversity

    Healthier businesses

Balancing opportunities for professional growth for different genders and races and increasing the participation of historically excluded minorities within the staff are urgent commitments. For RD, promoting diversity is more than taking care of others: it is making the work environment more inclusive, representing the society we serve in a diverse and plural way.

Our priority for this decade is to increase the representativeness of minorized groups in our staff and to ensure respect in our work environment.

    Pragmatic goals until 2030:

    • Achieving

      gender equity

across all functional categories in head office, stores, and Distribution Centers (CDs)

    • Having at least

50% representation of people of color

      in leadership positions

    • Having 6% of employee PCDs

across all operations, with reduced turnover

    • To double the representativeness

of people 50+ in RD compared to 2020

    • Achieving a

      discrimination-free

environment witnessed or experienced in stores, head office and CDs (against public PCDs, LGBTQIA+, people of color, seniors [over 60 years] and women)

    Expanding employees’ personal development
    opportunities

    Healthier businesses

We are proud to be a company that has always bet on the professional growth of our talents. In 2020, more than 3 thousand employees underwent training, we awarded around 500 scholarships and 100% of our store managers were promoted internally. We want to continue growing and collaborating with a better world, so we will invest even more in personal development opportunities.

Our main focus is on education, multiplying incentives for our employees to attend technical, higher education and graduate courses.

    Pragmatic goals until 2030:

    • Boosting the training of

      7,000 professionals

      with incentives from RD

    • Reaching

      40,000 employees

      trained in professional growth courses

    • Providing

      10,000 income increase opportunities

      every year

    Promoting empowerment
    and diversity between
    suppliers

    Healthier businesses

It is not enough to look inside the house. Large chains, such as RD, drive huge supplier chains, which often represent the brand in sensitive stages of the business. So, while we do not have the autonomy to change processes and policies within other companies, we understand that it is our role to drive minimum requirements for socio-environmental service and encourage best practices in our chain.

Therefore, in our relationship with partners, we start to look beyond efficiency and costs, valuing attention to the ESG criteria.

    Pragmatic goals until 2030:

    • Evaluating

      100% of suppliers of critical
      categories

      with ESG* criteria

    • Reaching

      100% of suppliers of critical
      categories

      with diversity goals or indicators*

    • Reaching

      100% of regular small suppliers

trained in business management and sustainability

    • Providing

      business management

and sustainability training for 100% of small active sellers

    * Those that act in sensitive stages of the chain from a socio-environmental point of view

    Enhancing the circular
    economy in the value chain
    of RD

    Healthier Planet

Brazil is one of the countries that generate the most urban solid waste in the world. And 2018* data show that we recycle only 3% of the waste we generate. About 45% are thrown into dumps, precarious landfills or are not even collected. The rest goes to landfills, which are far from solving the problem.

*source: Associação Brasileira de Empresas de Limpeza Pública e Resíduos Especiais (Brazilian Association of Public Cleaning and Special Waste Companies) (Abrelpe)

The ideal approach is to create conditions for the circular economy, that is, a production chain in which disposal practically does not happen, because everything is reused or allocated with due care. There is a lot to do on this topic, but we believe that we can stop the use of landfills in this decade.

    Pragmatic goals until 2030:

    • Reaching

      100% coverage

for medication waste collection by 2025, with increased volume collected

    • To bring to zero the use of landfills

(head office, stores and distribution centers)*

    • To have 40% of the company’s own products

      with eco-efficient packaging

    • Reaching

      100% stores

with solutions to reduce consumption of tertiary packaging implemented (in stores and at home deliveries)**

    • To lead a

      circular economy initiative

      with sectoral articulation

*It does not consider medication waste from collection points, which are currently sent for incineration in accordance with the relevant legislation, or waste from works, the recycling of which is not available for most of the national territory and are destined for landfill.
**shipping packaging, such as plastic bags and cardboard boxes.

    Contributing to
    global carbon
    neutrality

    Healthier Planet

In 2015, 195 countries, including Brazil, signed an agreement in which they undertake to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in sufficient quantity to slow down the planet’s warming pace. For the plan to work, each company and each citizen must make their contribution.

Our plan is to do our part towards a low-carbon economy, encouraging energy efficiency actions, and going further, offsetting more emissions than we generate, after all, we understand that a comprehensive health-oriented company plays a key role in the pursuit of global carbon neutrality.

    Pragmatic goals until 2030:

    • Reducing absolute GHG emissions

(scope 1 and 2) within the level below 1.5ºC, with base year 2020*

    • Reducing relative emissions

of GHG/m² store (scope 1 and 2) within the level below 2ºC, with base year 2020**

    • Reaching

      115% of GHG emissions

      compensated in 2030

    • Reaching

      115% of GHG emissions

      (scope 1, 2 and 3) compensated in 2030

    • To have

      30% of critical category suppliers

with GHG emission reduction and compensation plans

    * For the 1.5°C level, global net anthropic CO2 emissions decline by around 45% in relation to the levels from 2010 to 2030 (interquartile range between 40-60%) — IPCC — Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
** To limit global warming to less than 2°C, CO2 emissions are projected to decrease by about 20% by 2030 on most trajectories.
